Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ

Surrogacy in LaosWhile we know that you will have many, many questions about fertility treatment in Laos, our process, our surrogate mothers, our egg donors, our doctor, our hospitals, and who we work with. We compiled a detailed list of frequently asked questions (FAQ). We know that everyone’s situation is different and your answers may or may not be addressed by the answers below, so feel free to contact us anytime and we will be happy to answer all of your questions.

Why should we use Laos Fertility?

We only work with the most prestigious fertility hospitals in Laos with state of art technology, highest success rates, and experiences of a large operation. Many other clinics in Laos claim they are large hospitals when they are actually small private clinics renting spaces at some hospital. We have successfully helped numerous clients from all over the world achieving their dreams of having a child through surrogacy and bringing the child back to their own countries.

We offer intimate and personalized services and we support you every step of the way. Our policies are transparency and honesty. We are intended parents ourselves and we understand the struggle that you are going through.

How Does the process work?

Once a surrogacy contract is agreed upon and signed, we will book a pre-screened surrogate mother. This usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. If an egg donor is requested, based on your criteria, we will send you donor profiles for you to review and choose one. We will arrange detailed treatment schedules. For a fresh embryo transfer, we will synchronize the surrogate’s menstrual cycle with intended mother’s cycle or donor’s cycle if a donor is used. The synchronization process can take 2 to 6 weeks. For a frozen embryo transfer, intended mother or the egg donor can start the treatment on the second day of a menstrual cycle. Eggs are retrieved usually on day 12 to 14, embryos are fertilized and transferred to the uterus of surrogate on day 3 to 5 after egg pick up for a fresh cycle.

10 days after embryo transfer, the surrogate mother will take a pregnancy test, followed by a heartbeat check at a later time to confirm the pregnancy. During the term of the pregnancy, we will monitor the health of the baby through prenatal care check-ups and provide you with reports. At the end, you have your new bundle of joy, and the surrogate mother’s duties are fulfilled.

How much does it cost?

Please see our treatment cost sheet and our service price list. Unlike most of other agencies that provide a package price by adding additional costs to hospital listed prices, we are completely open and honest about the hospital related costs. You pay the hospital related costs according to hospital listed prices, not a dollar more. If another agency tells you that they are not charging you more for treatment, you can easily find out if they are telling you the truth by requesting a price list from the hospital directly and compare the prices.

Our surrogacy service costs include providing different surrogates for up to 3 embryo transfer attempts. Many other agencies use the same surrogate again after a failed embryo transfer. Albert Einstein once said “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” What’s the chance of a success if you use the same surrogate that already failed once? Slim to none.

While we understand costs are important in your selection of a clinic, we would like to remind you that choosing a reputable clinic with high success rates is most important. After all, if you don’t succeed, any cheaper prices don’t mean anything. Some of our clients failed multiple times at some other clinics with cheaper prices and eventually came to realize how important it is to choose the right clinic and how such clinic will save their money at the end.

Do you offer installment payments?

Yes. Please refer to the price sheet for more details.

Are prenatal care expenses and child delivery expenses included in the surrogacy service fees?

No. Prenatal care expenses and child delivery expenses are hospital related expenses. Intended parents are responsible for all of the hospital related expenses according to hospital listed prices.

Do I have to pay extra if surrogate mother is pregnant with twins?

Yes. If surrogate mother is pregnant with twins, a one-time extra fee is due at 12 weeks pregnancy (first trimester). Being pregnant with twins puts a lot more stress and burden on surrogate mother’s body and daily life. The surrogate mother should be compensated for this. In addition, there will be more frequent prenatal care checkups, more transportation expenses, more food, and more milk, etc.

Can I use more than one surrogate mother at the same time?

Yes. However, this may complicate the process of bringing your children back to your country, depending on the laws and regulations in your country. Also, the surrogacy service fees are more in this case because multiple surrogate mothers will need to be compensated and taken care of.

Can I bring my own surrogate mother?

Yes. If you bring your own surrogate, she must undergo the same screening tests as for other surrogates and meet the medical criteria of being a surrogate mother. We will charge you a one-time administrative fee for drafting contracts to protect your rights, coordinating the treatment schedules, and guiding you through the process.

How do you screen your surrogate mothers and egg donors?

Both surrogate mothers and egg donors must undergo strict medical and psychological screen tests to make sure they meet certain criteria. We test blood grouping and Rh typing. We blood test for syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B and C. We screen for infectious diseases including chlamydiosis, genital herpes, ureaplasmosis, mycoplasmosis, CMV, and rubella etc. For surrogates, they are single and have at least one child. we also check urethral, cervical culture, the degree of vaginal cleanliness, and lining of uterus. Surrogate mothers also undergo psychological evaluation to make sure they are mentally ready to carry a child of others. For our egg donors, they are beautiful and healthy young women with college degrees.

Can I select my surrogate?

Unlike egg donors, appearance is not a factor in selecting a surrogate mother. Selection of a surrogate mother is mostly made by doctors as a surrogate mother must meet certain medical criteria of being able to carry a pregnancy. We will provide surrogate mother’s profile for your review.

What if a surrogate mother doesn’t want to give up the child after delivering a child?

This is usually not a factor. When we interview our surrogate mothers, their biggest concern is what if the intended parents change their mind and don’t want the child. We have contracts in place to protect your parental rights and for the surrogate to give up her rights of the child.

What updates do I receive during the surrogacy process?

We provide comprehensive reports, including various lab reports, a simulation report, an embryo report with photos of your embryos, embryo transfer reports, and a report after every prenatal care check-up. We are prepared to manage any issues that come up during or after the pregnancy, and provide timely ongoing communication regarding the pregnancy progress.

How many visits will I have to make to Laos?

You will be required to come to the Laos at least 2 times, once for the treatment and another time at the delivery of a child. You are welcome to come to visit your surrogate mother as often as you wish during the entire pregnancy period.

How long do I need to stay in Laos for the treatment?

The actual treatment requires about 2 weeks. If you use your own eggs, please plan on staying in Laos for 2 to 3 weeks. If you use an egg donor, please plan on staying in Laos for 3 to 4 days. If you wish to start the simulation in their own country and later finish the treatment in Laos, we offer the option to coordinate with your doctor in your country and you are only required to stay in Laos for about a week.

How long do I need to stay in Laos after the delivery of a child?

This varies based on how fast your embassy can process the paper work required for your child. Some embassies process paperwork faster than others. As a general rule, we advise international intended parents to plan on staying for 3 to 6 weeks, to allow time for obtaining birth certificates and any DNA testing if required by your embassy.

How do I bring my child back to my country? What paper work is required?

This varies from country to country. We have successfully helped intended parents from many counties to bring their children back to their counties. We will guide you through this process. As we are not attorneys ourselves, you should always consult with immigration attorneys in your own country for information about the best procedures for bringing your child back to your country.
