After India closed it’s doors to surrogacy, Thailand became the go to country for surrogacy where surrogacy laws were a grey area and many fertility clinics in Bangkok provided surrogacy services. However, after 2 large scandals that upset the surrogacy industry in Thailand, the practice was banned in July 2015. Therefore, Thai doctors moved over to Cambodia where they partnered with fertility clinics there offering the service. But the surrogacy business was very short lived in Cambodia and like Thailand Cambodia too closed its doors to surrogacy.
Finally, Laos is becoming the go to country for surrogacy. Currently, there are no real surrogacy laws in Laos but there is news that the government is considering legalizing it by regulating the industry. The government is studying the industry and are recognizing that if they could regulate the practice it could be a good source of income for the tiny Communist country.
