Surrogacy Costs Worldwide

Surrogacy-Costs-Worldwide - Surrogacy Costs WorldwideSurrogacy Costs Worldwide vary from country to country ranging from affordable to very expensive depending upon which region one is interested in. Generally, surrogacy is much more expensive in the West. This is most notably true in the U.S. where surrogacy costs can exceed $100,000. The costs nowadays are even higher because of the huge influx of wealthy Chinese who have pushed up the prices significantly. Most find these high costs not affordable so they seek other countries where they can fulfill their dreams of having a baby through more affordable surrogacy.

The most challenging task for one seeking surrogacy in other countries than the West is the fact that many countries around the world including Asia, Africa, and eastern Europe don’t have specific laws which govern and regulate surrogacy. For instance, India used to be the go to country for couples and even single gay men seeking to have a baby through a surrogate mother. India actually formally commercialized and legalized surrogacy only to ban it to foreigners after a decade of many people traveling there to have their babies. After India banned the practice to foreigners, the surrogacy business moved over to Thailand. Unfortunately, after several years, and a number of surrogacy scandals and a new military government, Thailand followed India and also banned surrogacy to foreigners.

Cambodia and Laos became two places where their governments didn’t have surrogacy laws and the practice was a grey area. After a short stint in Cambodia, the government there too banned the practice to foreigners and many western couples had difficulty getting their babies out of the country. Today, only Laos in southeast Asia has not yet banned the practice and there is some talk that Laos may actually draft surrogacy laws and make the practice legal by regulating the way it works. This is good news for intended parents seeking alternative and affordable places to do surrogacy. However, the costs have gone up quite a bit than what they were in India and Thailand. It will now cost a couple between $60,000 to $70,000 depending upon if they need an egg donor or not. Expensive, yes, but still much cheaper than the U.S.

Surrogacy costs worldwide do vary from country to country and it seems as though the practice is getting harder and harder to find because so many countries have made surrogacy illegal. However, if one looks hard enough, there are still choices out there. Some places are South Africa, Kenya, Georgia, Ukraine, and Russia that allow surrogacy and in some cases even legalized and commercialized the practice.
